HM King Juan Carlos I of Spain has appointed HRH Don Pedro de Borb�n-Dos Sicilias y Orl�ans, Duque de Noto, as President of the Royal Council of the four Military Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alc�ntara and Montesa. This ancient body was formed in 1523 to administer these great historic institutions de Borb­; the previous presidents were HRH Don Juan de Borb�n y Battenberg, Count of Barcelona, who was succeeded by HRH Infante Don Carlos de Borb�n-Dos Sicilias y Borb�n-Parma, Duke of Calabria. Following the resignation of the latter, HM the King nominated the Infante Don Carlos' s only son, HRH Don Pedro, as President in his place, on 28 April. Don Pedro was installed as such by HM on 6 May in a ceremony in the Royal Palace.
