The body of HRH the Infante Don Carlos lay in state today in the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, the coffin draped with the Spanish flag surmounted by the hat of a knight of Alcántara (of which Order he was Grand Commander) with the collars of the Golden Fleece and the Constantinian Order laid on black velvet cushions in front. He was attended by a rotating Guard of Honour composed of four soldiers of the royal guard, two priests, two Constantinian knights and two knights of the Military Orders (Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara and Montesa).
The family of the Infante were seated in front, HRH the Infanta Doña Alicia (accompanied by her daughter, HRH Princess Teresa, Marquesa de Laserma), HRH the Duchess of Calabria, TRH the Duke and Duchess of Noto, HRH Princess Doña Cristina and her husband Don Pedro López-Quesada, HIRH Princess Maria, Archduchess of Austria and her husband HIRH Archduke Simeon, HRH Princess Ines (her husband Michele dei Marchesi Carrelli Palombi was unable to attend today), and HRH Princess Victoria and her husband Marcos Nomikos. HRH the Duke of Capua and other grandchildren of the Infante were also present. A large number of friends and members of the Orders attended through the day.
Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, accompanied by HRH Infanta Doña Elena attended and warmly greeted the whole family, as did Their Majesties King Simeon and Queen Margarita of the Bulgarians, who arrived shortly before King Juan Carlos. Earlier in the afternoon HRH Monseigneur Louis-Alphonse de Bourbon, Duke of Anjou, also came to pay his respects.

Carlos de Borbon was born in 1938 and attended school with King Juan Carlos, where they became very good friends. After the funeral
The Infante's coffin stands before the altar with the hat of a knight of Alcántara place upon it. The Infante was dressed in the scapula of a knight of Alcántara and the mantle of Constantinian Grand Master.
